In case you don't know about Storyline Online, it's an Emmy nominated, award-winning children's literacy program. It's a free program where kids and parents can stream videos of stars reading children's books aloud to them. Every day thousands of children around the world watch and listen to classic stories alongside beautiful illustrations. Reading aloud to children is one of the best ways to improve a child's reading, writing, and communication skills.
Adding to the many influential readers including Viola Davis, Chris Pine, Kristen Bell, and many many more, now comes Chrissy Metz from NBC's This Is Us.
She is reading "The Elves and The Shoemaker," retold from The Brothers Grimm and illustrated by Jim LaMarche. It makes a great holiday book for kids to listen to because it's about the spirit of giving.
Chrissy Metz says, "I love this book because I think it's really important that we give and we receive... And I think it's really important to give with your whole heart."
As a former preschool teacher, it's clear that Chrissy Metz is passionate about giving kids an opportunity to enhance their reading through read-alouds from free programs like Storyline Online.
"When I first saw Storyline Online and found out it was a free children's literacy program created by the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, I reached out immediately and volunteered to read. It's amazing to me that not just 20 children will watch and listen to me read them a story but millions of kids all over the world will get that experience through Storyline Online," she says.
So check out her reading of "The Elves and The Shoemaker," on Storyline Online. It's free, and there are so many different stories to choose from. It's perfect for bedtime and perfect for the holidays!
